Different Types of Braces

Ever wondered what types of braces are available? Here’s where you can learn about them

Metal Braces (Traditional)

Metal braces are created with stainless steel, and utilize colored elastics. These brackets are attached to the front of the tooth and are connected to every tooth that needs movement through orthodontics.

Ceramic (Semi-Clear) Braces

Ceramic braces use materials that are not as visible as traditional braces. If you are concerned with the aesthetic side of wearing braces, this could be a great option for you!

Self-Ligating Braces

Very much like the metal braces, the traditional self-ligating brackets are made of stainless steel. However, these do not use the colored elastics. They have a small door that holds the wire in place as it moves your teeth into place. This door helps to reduce the pressure that is placed on your teeth and also requires fewer adjustments. The self-ligating braces are also available in ceramic.

Lingual Braces

This option is much less visible than all the other types of braces because they are attached to the back side of your teeth! They are still made of stainless steel, and will act much like the stainless steel option. Adult patients often complain of braces being so visible, and the lingual braces option removes that concern!
